Een memo van Activision’s Publishing CEO Eric Hirschberg verwijst naar een spoedige fusie van studios Neversoft en Infinity Ward, onder het mom één grote ‘super-studio’ te vormen. Neversoft en Infinity Ward zijn geen onbekenden van elkaar. Zij werkten eerder nauw samen aan de ontwikkeling van Call of Duty: Ghosts. Het succes van deze samenwerking heeft geleid tot deze fusie.
De ‘nieuwe’ studio zal de naam Infinity Ward aanhouden, wegens de sterke associatie met de Call of Duty franchise. Dave Stohl, executive vice president van Activision wereldwijd, is aangesteld als hoofd van de studio. Studiohoofd Joel Jewett en director Scott Please van Neversoft hebben besloten na de fusie helaas met pensioen te gaan.
“The impact of their 20-year run of hard work and success cannot be overstated,” said Hirshberg. “As already mentioned, we are merging these two very talented teams and obviously had to choose a name for the combined studio. Since the Infinity Ward brand is indelibly tied to the Call of Duty franchise, it is the sensible choice. While it will be strange to not see the Neversoft logo on future games, the important things–which are the Neversoft team’s talent, creativity, professionalism and commitment to creative excellence–all remain unchanged as part of this new chapter.”
