Er is veel geschreven en gesproken rondom No Man’s Sky. Ontwikkelaar Hello Games heeft sinds de aankondiging van de game vele beloftes gedaan rondom het spel, waarvan er uiteindelijk weinig terug waren te vinden tijdens de release. Ook wij waren allerminst onder de indruk van het spel. In een recent interview heeft PlayStation-baas Shawn Layden laten weten dat de beloftes niet zijn ingelost door de ongelooflijke visie die Hello Games had. Ook zegt hij dat de ontwikkelaar nog steeds hard aan het werk is om die visie werkelijkheid te maken.
I think Hello Games, Sean Murray and his team, had an incredible vision on what they were going to create. Something never done before. And a very small team had a very huge. ambition. Now, they’re still working at it. They’re still updating it. They’re trying to get it closer to what their vision was. I played a lot when it came out.
Nobody in development wants to say that they can’t do a thing, right? No one wants to tell someone, “No I can’t do that for you.” People are really trying. I think looking at the different industries I’ve had the privilege of working, the gaming industry is where everybody has the courage to say “yes.” And they want to try to realize their ambitions. They want to try to make that vision. No one slinks away from a huge challenge. And sometimes you just don’t get all the way there at the first go.
De release van No Man’s Sky was in augustus. Sindsdien hebben veel mensen hun geld teruggeëist en is er een officiële consumenteninstantie bezig met een onderzoek naar het spel, wegens alle klachten die er gedaan zijn door gamers.
